Here is a poem I wrote in 2004 about anger and a quote I came across from Buddha on the same subject: “Holding onto anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”
SHUN ANGER MY CHILD © 2004
My children shun anger; shun violence
It’s poison in our veins; how can we live in silence?Your peers see violence everywhere
They just want to be loved but do they dare?
Love is not controlling or to possess
Do we think it is to obsess?
We can fight for what’s right with anger-less action
Words can be dismissed without reaction
What comes around goes around
Karmas stacked now more than a mound
What we have to swallow will not be sour
If we look to a higher power
Our fellow beings won’t always see eye to eye
Nothing matters yet everything counts including every lie
We all can make a difference in our own life
Attitude is primary and our best interest may be strife
Maturity is knowing our self and appreciating the Divine
Then we know when and where to draw the line
Always love and be true to yourself
Put what you can’t handle on a shelf
Whether you deal with it later or someday soon
Have the courage to face it; it’ll be a great boon
No matter what you say or do
I will always have this love for you
Dear child, find your anchor and stay strong
I love you and we’ll be together before long
