Kristen Stewart, 27-year-old megastar of “The Twilight Saga” who has spent the last handful of years honing her acting skills and burnishing her professional reputation in acclaimed indie films like “Still Alice” and “Personal Shopper,” has quietly dropped a bit more than $5.6 million for an authentic, albeit major fixer-upper artist’s loft in lower Manhattan’s Noho neighborhood.
The 3,000-square-foot spread, on a lower floor of an ornately embellished and carefully restored mid-19th century cast-iron building that’s likely to undergo an extensive and expensive renovation, is awkwardly divided into two distinct sections. At the south end of the apartment, three medium-sized bedrooms cluster around an open lounge area with a small, windowless bathroom and laundry area. The northern wing comprises one immense room that stretches to 60-feet long with timeworn original hardwood floors, a dozen almost floor-to-ceiling sash windows and a nonworking fireplace set into an exposed brick wall. There’s also a second windowless bathroom next to a makeshift, tile-floored kitchen.
The in-demand and famously publicity-eschewing actress, also a spokesperson and model for the Chanel and Balenciaga fashion houses who’s rumored to be in the running for a plum role in the Elizabeth Banks-directed theatrical reboot of the 1970s TV show “Charlie’s Angels,” owns at least three other properties, all in the Los Angeles area. In 2008, she shelled out almost $630,000 for an unassuming triplex in Pasadena; in the fall of 2011, she coughed up $4.8 million for an ocean view architectural in Malibu; and in 2012, she paid not quite $2.2 million for a city view residence inside the gates of the historic, prestigious and celeb-filled Laughlin Park enclave, where some of her high-profile neighbors include Ellen Pompeo, Natalie Portman and Angelina Jolie.
